Gender in the Law- Looking at laws and making sure they’re not too broad and that they don’t overreach because it’s something that’s referred to as immutable characteristics. (cannot be changed). For example, having a county club for males exclusively isn’t fair to women, since women can’t change the way they were born; you’re born a woman, and you don’t have a choice. Another example is race. People who refuse to hire African Americans because they are a different color are not being fair because they cannot change the color of their skin. A person is just that: a person. So, how about now? You were born a woman, but you don’t have to identify as one; you can be a man or a woman (he/him). At what point can someone identify as a race other than the one they were born as, just as easily as it’s possible to change one’s identity? When does the legislation against discrimination become obsolete since you no longer have to accept who you were born as?
