Write a short paper clearly conveying your knowledge of and connection to poetry.
Consider how you define poetry. If you were writing a dictionary, what definition would you include for the word poetry? Simply and objectively define it. Then redefine the word poetry through the personal. Do you write poetry? If so, you may have a different relationship to poetry than someone who is a casual reader.
Show the reader your relationship to poetry, even if you feel you have none. But remember, Seuss and Silverstein are poets, and many consider rap artists to be our most gifted contemporary poets.
