For many years now, scientists and philosophers have attempted to explain why humans behave the way we do. Theorists seek to explain why people seek to fulfill the need to cooperate. Based on the course readings, I developed the opinion that humans are born selfish and with primeval instincts. We seek to fulfill our needs and are willing to manipulate and lie in order to get what we want. These behaviors are evident when you monitor a young child. It takes time, much explanation, and constant reinforcement to make a child share. I do believe we can ultimately grow up to be both, cooperative and self-centered. However, we are not born with both qualities. I believe cooperation is a learned characteristic that has been developed in order to live and succeed in our contractual society. This is my opinion, and it is not a fact.
