Assignment Details
It is expected that there will be certain amounts of quality variance throughout the production process. To determine whether the quality variances are acceptable or not, control limits are created. Observations of quality characteristics or costs taken at different intervals can be plotted. This plotting can help to determine if a process is in control or not in control (i.e., if it exceeds established control limits or tolerances).
Control charts allow people to visualize the variances in processes. When it is determined that a process is out of control, corrective action must be taken. Several useful tools can be applied for diagnosing quality problems. In turn, solutions for putting the process back under control can then be developed.
Create an 8-slide presentation that provides a sample control chart for a certain out-of-control process. Slides in your presentation should be organized as follows:
1 slide with a scenario of your choosing (real or fictional); use speaker notes to interpret what the chart depicts
1 control chart
3 slides, each presenting a technique from your reading that can be used to help diagnose the cause of the quality problem presented in your control chart; use speaker notes to interpret the chart for the reader
1 slide with a proposed course of action for putting the process back under control based on the information previously presented
Your presentation should consist of at least 8 slides, with 1–2 sources that contain the following:
Title (1 slide)
Scenario (1 slide)
Control chart (1 slide)
Techniques for diagnosing the problem (3 slides)
Recommended course of action (1 slide)
References (1 slide)
Submitting your assignment in APA format means, at a minimum, you will need the following:
Title slide: Remember the running head. The title should be in all capitals.
Length: 8 slides minimum
Body slides: This begins on the slide following the title slide and must be double-spaced (be careful not to triple- or quadruple-space between paragraphs). The typeface should be 12-pt. Times Roman or 12-pt. Courier in regular black type. Do not use color, bold type, or italics, except as required for APA-level headings and references. The deliverable length of the body of your presentation for this assignment is 8 slides. In-body academic citations to support your decisions and analysis are required. A variety of academic sources is encouraged.
Reference slide: References that align with your in-body academic sources are listed on the final slide of your presentation. The references must be in APA format using appropriate spacing, hanging indent, italics, and uppercase and lowercase usage as appropriate for the type of resource used. Remember, the Reference slide is not a bibliography but a further listing of the abbreviated in-body citations used in the paper. Every referenced item must have a corresponding in-body citation.
