Question: Now York College of Optometry is a vibrant community of faculty, staff, and students that are richly diverse in cultural backgrounds, experiences, values, and viewpoints. Describe the community you come from — your cultural group, extended family, religious group, neighborhood, school, sports team, club, or other group — and how this influence might enrich and add diversity to the NY Optometry community.
Specificities:
I come from a Cuban family. Around 7 years ago my parents decide to leave every thing we had in Cuba and come to the USA. My family is composed of immigrants, who came to this country with dreams and aspirations of new and better opportunities, especially for my sister and me. My parents struggled during the first years here because they had to face a new completely different life and language, but with many sacrifices and persistence they are making possible my dream of becoming a doctor of optometry.
My dad and I are big sport fans. In our home is a tradition to watch baseball every day specially Sundays. We are big Yankees fans and one of our dreams is to be able to enjoy a game at the yankee stadium.
