Write an essay (12 point font/double-spaced/1-inch margins) that reflects your thoughtful engagement with 1 work or several works of art that were assigned in our modules, and your own role as the audience of that work of art. Articulate a ‘main idea/interpretation’ in your first paragraph, and make sure that all body paragraphs clearly connect to that main idea, and support it.
You may focus on one or more works of art covered in our class.
You must also refer to the relevant secondary scholarship assigned in this class. (For example, if you decide to write about the performance of gender in Absolute Boyfriend, you must refer to the readings assigned in the manga module – Kern and Kinsella – at a minimum.)
I repeat: you must include the secondary scholarship assigned in the module that was paired with whatever primary text you focus on for your paper.
Responses that are mere plot summaries receive zero credit. Be sure to clearly cite the sources you use for summarized, paraphrased or quoted material. Please use MLA (Links to an external site.) style conventions for both content and page formatting. A ‘works cited’ or reference page at the end is necessary for full credit.
