Charles Baudelaire, Samuel Coleridge, and Edgar Allan Poe were three of the most influential poets of their time. One major difference between Charles Baudelaire and his contemporaries was his focus on urban settings as opposed to rural ones. His poetry often explored Paris from a cynical perspective; he rejected traditional values in favor of exploring the everyday experiences of an individual living in an industrialized city like Paris. By contrast, Samuel Coleridge’s writing focused more on nature imagery and its relation to moral themes than did other Romantic writers. His works such as “Kubla Khan” explore how humans interact with nature through imagination which is something quite uncommon for his era where writers tended to stick closer to tradition beliefs about human-nature relationships.
