Comprehension:
This section of the rubric will measure the student’s ability to understand what they are reading. This includes their understanding of main ideas, connecting ideas, and making inferences from the text.
4 – Signs of advanced comprehension; makes connections between stories/ideas; easily comprehends complicated passages; puts together pieces to form a complex understanding.
Develop a rubric for emergent reading skills in four year old children.
3 – Good understanding; makes some connections between stories/ideas; understands most given passages without difficulty.
2 – Basic comprehension; identifies main idea of text but struggles with more complex concepts in texts. Does not make many connections between stories/ideas.
1 – Struggles with basic level comprehension, unable to identify main idea or connect story/idea elements together.
Phonemic Awareness:
This part of the rubric will assess how well students can recognize letters, their sounds and distinguish one sound from another when spoken aloud or on paper (i.e., rhyming words). This also includes being able to break down words into smaller parts such as syllables or individual phonemes (letters that produce different sounds) and putting them back together again accurately when asked.
4 – Advanced phonemic awareness skills; able to segment syllables & blend sounds quickly & accurately without any help needed from an adult.; displayed fluency while manipulating speech sounds at an advanced level.; quickly discriminates between similar sounding words like “boat” and “coat” . . .etc.
3 – Good phonemic awareness skills;; is able to segment syllables & blend sounds accurately but needs some help from adult every now & then for accuracy..displays fluency while manipulating speech sounds at a good level..quickly discriminates between similar sounding words correctly most times but still need occasional help for accuracy 2 – Developing phonemic awareness skills;; shows signs of progress by beginning to understand letter-sound relationships, however still has difficulty segmenting syllables & blending them correctly even with occasional guidance from adults..makes mistakes while discriminating between similar sounding words sometimes due to lack of experience 1 – Poor phonemic awareness skills;; is unable perform any task related to recognizing letters ,their various corresponding sounded problems emerge when attempting tasks related discrimination between similar sounding word etc even with great amount assistance and guidance Fluency: This aspect measures how well students can smoothly read aloud at a consistent speed along with expressing expression that conveys meaning accurately as if speaking conversationally rather than merely reciting something off a page without emotion or emphasis on certain elements which might miss out important details hidden within the text itself . 4- Very fluent reader ; reads quickly ,fluently ,accurately maintaining proper speed throughout passage ..expressively communicates through his readings skillfully utilizing all expressive aspects like intonation ,emotion ,speed etc emphasizing key points appropriately.. 3- Fairly fluent reader ; Able read confidently keeping good pace throughout passage ..shows signs competency relating expressive communication but misses few important points because he was not able express it effectively 2- Developing Reader ; Reads slowly taking breaks in middle sentences often struggling build up proper momentum during entire passage ..bungles up few tries communicate expressively making mess out key points 1 – Ineffective Reader ; Unable maintain consistent pace during passage abandoning momentum repeatedly halfway through reading session ..completely lacks ability convey emotion within his readings no matter how many attempts made
