Medea is a strong woman who has been wronged by her husband Jason and seeks revenge in order to regain worth and power. She commits two horrific acts: murdering her two children and taking Jason’s life too. In this essay, I will argue that Medea was justified in her actions as she was driven by a strong sense of justice, had endured countless injustices from those around her, and acted out of self-preservation.

Firstly, it is important to state that Medea felt a pressing need for justice to be served. She saw the world as deeply unjust; Her marriage to Jason was one filled with dishonesty and mistreatment while they were together which violated every rule of fidelity women are expected to maintain during marriage at the time. This caused immense pain for Medea as proven in lines such as “Ah me! What monstrous deed must I do?” (Euripides 664). After learning about his affair with Glauce—the daughter of Creon—Medea experienced many emotions; rage over this betrayal but also sorrow over having been treated so poorly after all she had done for him previously. Hence her decision could be seen not only an act of vengeance but also an attempt at restoring balance into their lives where justice had been denied thus far through violence and loss.

Furthermore, it can also be argued that there was a cycle injustice leading up to these events which drove her mad like nature beyond redemption or control –chiefly being what she would have faced if she stayed even after killing co-wife Glauce ,creon ordering banishment ,Jason trying to break his promise just when medeas hope lingered due  to impending reunion with family .
