My family’s roots run deeply,
Deeper than the ocean blue.
From far off lands and distant shores,
Our story started anew.
We each carry a piece of our past,
A history that binds us all;
It’s one we can never outrun,
Not at a city hall.
Write your ancestry story in a poem.
Our ancestors had unique stories,
Of courage and defeat.
From Europe to Asia Minor,
Some journeyed on their feet.
The matriarch was an artist, From Russia to Poland she roamed; Her brushstrokes brought beauty to light As she quietly called it home.
The patriarch was a farmer– A hardworking man of soil; He worked the land and grew his crops To tilling he did toil.
Their children spread their wings And ventured o’er the sea; Some stayed close while others sought New horizons they could see.
To California they traveled Seeking dreams in golden sand; Their hearts were brave yet careful too- With faith they took a stand!
In time more generations bloomed With cultures full of pride: The heritage alive inside us now — No longer have to hide!
Though memories may dim with age We’ll always hold them dear: The colors that make up my family tree Are ones I will revere!
