What comes to mind when you think of a media conglomerate today? Is it a broadcast
company? A newspaper company or TV station? How about a music company? How about
media companies that own others? For example, ESPN is owned by ABC and both are owned
by Disney.
For this assignment, you’ll write up a profile in essay format consisting of 2-3 pages (double-
spaced and 12-point font) of any U.S. media conglomerate from this article I’ve provided for
you, including a list of the major companies starting with the parent company, historical
background of the company, and major acquisitions. As you’ll see, when a media conglomerate
is mentioned, usually you think of a giant media parent company such as Disney, Sony, Time
Warner, Comcast, etc. This article is just a starting point and feel free to use other sources as
well.
